There are events and then THERE ARE EVENTS! The Shirley G Wig Launch party at the Blind Whino last night was the latter. It was the definition of dope. Heck it was awesome and fan-ta-bu-lous and any other adjective to describe a job so VERY well done and a party so FUN!!
Before I get into my ridiculous exclamations of joy and approval for the party, let’s discuss Shirley G. First and foremost, I did not know who she was but was stopped at least 5 times asking “Does Shirley do your hair” and since I was pretty fond of my hair last night, I knew that she must be a bad ass hairstylist. And let me tell you all- she is and more! The lady is simply stunning from head to toe and has a smile that , for lack of better words, lightens up a room. Her energy was so infectious and her passion for what she does was so apparent that I wanted to say “forget the rent next month and let me buy a wig”. Her wigs were incredibly natural looking and they are the perfect way to switch up your look with ease. Clearly Shirley G has skills. All of the skills in fact!
During the social hour of the launch party, the models donning Shirley G wigs were standing on pedestals for all to admire. A few hours later, the models and attendees went upstairs for the fashion show. That fashion show was a blast! The music was pumping, the audience was riveted and those wigs….. ohhh wee! Stunning!
I was invited to this event by Robyn Dixon from Real Housewives of Potomac and TAA PR. Everyone knows I am not a fan of reality shows but every now and then one will tickle my fancy. RHOP is that show. And well Robyn was and is my fave on the show and she’s becoming my fave in real life as well. Anyone who reaches a certain level of celebrity status but still remains humbled, welcoming and appreciative is someone who has achieved true success. I commend you Robyn on keeping it real!
But….. back to the event…..
There are 3 things that must happen for a great event. You must have an eclectic and invigorating mix of attendees. You must have an event space that speaks to the topic or reason for the affair and last but not least you must have tasty treats and libations! The Shirley G Wig Launch party aced those and more!
Located in SW DC, The Blind Whino is an arts club dedicated to community and appreciation of all things creative. The organization was founded on the principal that art is a catalyst for change in a community, providing inspiration and motivation for those that encounter its power. (c) blindwhino.org
I get goosebumps reading that. As a creative, I can vouch for how often art has helped me with emotional regulation or boredom or a feeling of complacency. It does not matter what form of art you choose to partake in, the point is to just do it. Whether photography (look at the change in Baltimore), music or fashion to name a few, art is powerful and CAN positively change the community and with that I fully support The Blind Whino and looking forward to visiting again soon!
This is an insanely photo intensive post and I hope you enjoy!
Let me end this by not so humbly writing: I am SO winning at events this week. Tonight is the opening of the KURIOS: Cabinet of Curiosities in Tyson’s and I get to attend. It’s my first Cirque du Soleil and I’m GEEKED!
